Chapter 8 · In the book

Completing the picture

Most portfolios contain only an introduction and a set of case studies. It’s a good start, but it rarely tells a hiring manager everything they want to know.

Problems this chapter solves

The reviewer can’t find the kind of work they’re looking for.

You want to move into an area you have little experience in.

You’re not sure whether awards, talks or volunteering belong in a portfolio.

Your portfolio shows your work, but not who you are.

Some things sound big-headed when you say them about yourself.

You’ve included things that count against you without realising.
